Business & Life Coaching for Artists

Coaches aren't just for Athletes!

Fifteen years ago if you said you had a coach people would have assumed you were training for a marathon or some other athletic event. Ten years ago CEOs and successful entrepreneurs began to talk about the benefits of mentors and coaches. Today, thanks to the internet and the expansion of training programmes for coaches, everyone can find and access the services of an effective business or life coach.

So what exactly do coaches do?

Coaches help you reach your personal and professional goals and overcome blocks which may be preventing you from reaching those goals. Every coach has there own style and technique, but all coaching relationships are confidential, where the coach uses feedback and questions to raise awareness of unconscious patterns of behavior which may be holding you back or keeping you from realizing your full potential or achieving higher levels of success.

What's the Difference between a Coach and a Consultant?

The primary difference between Consulting and Coaching is that Coaching is client driven. It is based on the premise that you know what's best for you and your business, you just need help identifying it. Once you identify a course of action, coaches offer support and hold you accountable during regular coaching sessions.

Someone can be a very good and effective coach without having any specific knowledge or expertise in the field or type of business that the person they are coaching is in. When using a coach it is important that you know what you want, or hope to accomplish (although a coach can also help you identify this).

Consulting on the other hand requires knowledge of, or experience in the field or business that the consultant is advising on. Someone who is struggling in their business or looking for help and advice for improving their business may seek out a consultant who will review the situation and offer suggestions or make specific recommendations. It is then up to you to implement the changes, there is rarely ongoing support or regular follow up.

Here's a metaphor for the difference between courses, consulting and coaching:

Courses and books provide road maps. Good ones also give you tools to plan the best route from A to B.

Consultants, in addition to giving you "maps", also ask where you want to go, and tell you the best way to get there before sending you on your way.

Coaches are like a SAT NAV (in a good way), you tell them where you want to go and they show you possible routes. They may point out alternative routes, alert you to speed cameras or point out things you can't see from the drivers seat. They stay with you throughout the journey (hence the reason for longer term commitments).

What you can Expect from me.

As your coach, I work closely with you to focus on specific objectives you want to accomplish. I am committed to your success and will be there to support you through the good and the difficult times. I believe that you can achieve anything you believe in, and are committed to. You can think of me as your very own, one-woman cheer leading squad.

My style of coaching is very direct, if you’re not motivated to change and ready to push through some barriers I’m probably not the coach for you.

Here's what I expect of You.

You must commit to either an 8 or 16 consecutive sessions of coaching which consists of weekly or fortnightly Skype or phone conversations lasting 45 minutes each.

While I can help you set goals and reach objectives, coaching is client directed so in order for you to get the most from a coaching experience you must have the following:

  • a strong body of work, I am not a creative coach
  • self-motivation, inspiration and a burning desire to succeed as an artist
  • a clear idea of what you want to achieve, whether or not you know how to achieve it
  • a willingness to work hard, make sacrifices and take full responsibility for your actions and where you are right now

  • What we’ll cover with one-to-one coaching:

  • Assess where your art business is at this moment in time
  • Discuss and establish where you want to be
  • Design and implement a plan to propel you toward your goal

  • Some things you might want to accomplish with One-to-One coaching:

  • Identify what success looks like for you & design a plan for achieving it
  • Move from an amateur (unpaid) to professional artist
  • Change habits or behaviors that are restricting your progress
  • Identify appropriate galleries and develop a plan for approaching them
  • Increase your sales and art based income
  • Improve your time management to increase office productivity and studio time
  • Prepare for an upcoming exhibition or art fair
  • Improve your marketing and communication with clients

  • Eight coaching sessions are £485
    Sixteen coaching sessions are £895

If you are interested in coaching please send me an email telling me who you are and how you think I might help you. I will send you some additional information and questionnaires to return to me. We will then set up an initial 30 minute session charged at £55. After that session if you would like to sign up for coaching the £55 fee will be applied toward either the 8 or 16 session fee.
